Zoolander 2 trailer sees Mugatu return and Blue Steel lost again
The first Zoolander 2 trailer looks like a movie that was made simply to remind audiences these characters exist and were once worth a laugh. That said, I chuckled more at Mugatu looking ripped (above) and Benedict Cumberbatch pulling a Marilyn Manson than at anything else in the trailer, but fans of Ben Stiller’s first high fashion parody will likely enjoy his follow-up film. There are some new faces, some bound-to-be-hilarious cameos, and the return of the two male models (Stiller and Owen Wilson) and their signature looks that filled the first movie. I won’t say I’ll be lining up to see this one opening night, but it should be worth the watch if only to see more of these crazy characters.

The plot isn’t very subtle – narcissistic celebrities (models in this case) realize they’re out of touch with a changing industry – but plot is never a determining factor when it comes to seeing these kinds of movies. You know the ones. The Ferrell films. The Stiller comedies. Dare I even say the Sandler cash grabs? The movies rely more on the stars that pop their heads in to say hello and the extent of the schtick the leading comedian can make entertaining. Again, I’m looking forward to seeing Cumberbatch hamming it up without eyebrows and Ferrell screaming his head off more than anything, so here’s hoping Zoolander 2 is at least as entertaining as the first movie.
As has been the case, less is more with this franchise. Here’s the official Zoolander 2 plot synopsis:
3% Body Fat. 1% Brain Activity.
Zoolander 2 stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Penelope Cruz, Billy Zane, Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Munn, and most likely a handful of fun cameos. The movie makes its way to theaters on February 12, 2016.
