A new trailer and poster have been released for the upcoming apocalyptic zombie film World War Z. The trailers forshadow the movie’s distance from the source material, but coming from director Marc Forster (The Kite Runner, Stranger Than Fiction, Quantum of Solace), and starring Brad Pitt we might get a decent movie regardless.
Check out the poster after the jump.
UPDATE: Now with a new poster featuring Brad Pitt in a helicopter
World War Z, the book by Max Brooks, sees a reporter travelling the world and collecting stories about the zombie apocalypse from survivors after the fact. The stories he collects are raw, gruesome, often sad sad tales of how World War Z affected different individuals around the globe. The book makes for some nightmarish images and some fresh glimpses at what particulars might unfold if a zombie plague ever swept across the planet
The new film looks to be during the chaos, a little heavier on the action side, a whole lot crazier in terms rage-infected gymnasts, and just…off.
IMDb gives us a little insight:
“United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”
Is Marc Forster’s take on World War Z completely straying form the source material? Is it trying to re-invent or re-imagine how zombies function? Will there be a solid base of an explanation for the audience to stand on regarding how things spread and transform the living? They’re all interesting questions to think about, but in an entertainment world so saturated with the undead it’s hard not to approach the film with a little skepticism and more than a few reservations.
World War Z infects theaters June 21, 2013, and we’ll all get a chance to decide for ourselves just how well this new zombie entree sits after we munch it down.
