Vans Warped Tour is reeling in the big fish for summer 2016
Fans of the Vans Warped Tour both young and old can rejoice in this year’s lineup, and hopefully Warped Tour 2016 will be one for the books. As a ’90s kid, I’ve become a little jaded with newer Warped Tour-esque music, which makes me feel ridiculously old. Get off my Warped Tour, you damned kids! But in all seriousness, I got a ’90s nostalgic giddy when I skimmed through the Warped Tour lineup for 2016. High school me couldn’t help getting a little bit excited over seeing names like Atreyu, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Yellowcard, Reel Big Fish, and a few more at-one-time-favorites floating amid the band lineup list. Hell, I missed some of these “golden oldies” on stage back in my heyday, so it looks like Warped Tour 2016 is a must for me.
Don’t worry, there’s also plenty of talent for the current generation of pop-punk/mosh pitt enthusiasts this year. Whether you’re somewhat out of the Warped Tour scene (like me) or wouldn’t miss a summer of sweating it up with Vans, 2016’s tour looks like it could be one for the books. I remember going to Warped Tour back in 2013 for the sole purpose of seeing The Ataris, the single band I recognized on the lineup list. I sighed to myself internally upon arriving, “You old man, you. Look what you’ve become.” It was truly a disheartening moment. As I wandered around the peripherals of the stage, waiting for The Ataris to come on, I realized I wasn’t alone. The crowd consisted of more than a few 20-somethings with smiles on their faces, mohawks still perched atop their heads, and an air of, “So what if I look too old for this, I’m here to see a band I love.” Needless to say, The Ataris put on a hell of a show, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
And that’s really what Warped Tour is all about, what it’s always been about. Kids (both age-wise and at heart) coming together under a hot summer sun to have a blast while watching and listening to bands they love. Plus, Warped Tour is still one of the most consistently eclectic music festivals that brings handfuls of bands to handfuls of stages every year. While I’ll be going this year to see bands I grew up with, now waaaaay older than I remember them being, I’ll definitely be wandering around to check out plenty of talent I’ve never heard of before. Just check out how many bands are playing Vans Warped Tour 2016!
