Kevin Smith gives manimal splicing horror a try with first trailer for Tusk
While Kevin Smith considers himself a podcaster first and foremost, the writer and director still pulls in quite a few eyes whenever a new project surfaces. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the first trailer for Smith’s upcoming horror entry, Tusk, previewed a strange almost Human Centipede-type madman’s quest for creature perfection. The trailer is pretty straightforward in laying out what little plot there seems to be, but it sets a strong atmosphere and sees some intriguing peeks at the film’s stars.

Again, things are pretty upfront as far as what’s going on in this first trailer for Tusk, but it’ll be interesting to see how Smith lends his hand to the horror genre. Granted, his last directorial effort, Red State, was leaps and bounds ahead of his previous films in terms of setting a strong tone and following through, and everyone involved with Tusk (from what I’ve heard) seems to have had a lot of fun bringing it to life.
Here’s a short plot synopsis for the movie from the IMDb page for the film that steers clear of the walrus in the room:
When his best friend and podcast co-host goes missing in the backwoods of Canada, a young guy joins forces with his friend’s girlfriend to search for him.
Tusk star Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Parks, and Genesis Rodriguez. It’s scheduled for release on September 19, 2014.
As a side note, news broke today that Smith plans to continue his “True North Trilogy” with follow up films Yoga Hosers and Moose Jaws.
