Johnny Depp waxes ones and zeroes in Transcendence teaser
UPDATE: Full-length trailer now included!
Wally Phister, known for his cinematography collaborations with Christopher Nolan, is ready to take a seat in the director’s chair with his first film Transcendence. Working with Nolan has definitely given Phister access to some top-tier talent, and it seems the new director is diving headfirst into technically advanced territory with a great cast and a heavy concept.
Watch, or rather, listen, to Johnny Depp talk ones and zeroes and the end of an era, and catch a glimpse of his digitally altered face, in the first teaser trailer for Transcendence after the jump.
The trailer gives away very little about what the film is supposed to cover, and it’s another in a long line of unnecessary teasers, but seeing a teaser means a full-length trailer can’t be far off. Plus, there’s plenty of reading material on the subject material being explored in the movie, so enjoy that in the interim.
Here’s a lengthy synopsis for Transcendence letting us know just what Johnny Depp is teasing at:
Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.
With a cast like Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy, Kate Mara, Clifton Collins Jr., Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Cole Hauser, and Josh Stewart you’d think it would be impossible for this movie to not be exceptional. That said, direction and writing can make even the greatest talent look foolish in front of the camera, so let’s wait for a trailer and then a ticket before passing judgement on this one.
