The gang’s all here but Forky is the focus of first Toy Story 4 trailer
The first trailer for Toy Story 4 was released recently, and it is what it is. Is anyone asking for a Toy Story 4 that follows Bonny and features a butt-kicking Bo Peep and a new toy that’s a spork?
I don’t hate Toy Story 4. I just don’t see the why behind the movie other than dipping into the nostalgia vault (it’s been almost 10 years since Toy Story 3, which came more than 10 years after Toy Story 2) and the money involved in doing so these days.
Regardless, Toy Story 4 is here, and it’s bound to find its audience. The old favorites like Woody, Buzz, and crew are fun, the theme park setting seems entertaining, and a few fresh voices will lend their flamboyance to new characters.
Here’s the first trailer for Toy Story 4:
There was a time not long ago when people like to remember (even if it’s not quite true) that Pixar was the studio to look at for original, unique animated features. A time when the idea of something like Toy Story 4 was so outrageous in its affront to that non-sequel originality that it would have likely been laughed out of the office. Sequels seem to be par for the course these days, but there’s a chance Pixar sequels will end after 2019.
Why not wring the sequel rag one last time to get whatever’s left out of the Toy Story franchise? Anyone remember the holiday specials and short films like Toy Story of Terror?
For a trilogy that ended so satisfyingly with **spoiler** Andy giving his toys away to a young Bonnie, Toy Story 4 is going to have to do something special to bring back fans of the franchise (not that that’s the intention) without rehashing old ideas.
It looks like the answer is a post-apocalyptic-like Bo Peep who kicks butt and takes names, a toy utopia in the theme park, and a new message about trash (Forky) and fitting in. Oh, and let’s not forget Key and Peele, who seem to be a big part of the appeal.
Here’s a lengthy official plot synopsis for Toy Story 4:
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky, declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep. After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.
Toy Story 4 stars the voice talents of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, John Ratzenberger, Joan Cusack, Wallace Shawn, Kristen Schaal, Jordan Peele, Keegan-Michael Key, Christina Hendricks, Timothy Dalton, Bonnie Hunt, Jeff Garlin, Blake Clark, Tony Hale, Ally Maki, and Keanu Reeves. The movie hits theaters on June 21, 2019.
