Wright, Pegg, and Frost reunite for The World’s End
The pairing of Edgar Wright, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg is a preciously geeky love triangle for the ages that they’ve been kind enough to share with us. From this pairing we’ve gotten the hilarious genre-melting movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. To wrap up their loosely connected Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy the trio reunite for a pub crawl to end all pub crawls in what appears to be a cross between an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and possibly robot aliens. Good stuff!
Check out the trailer and a few images for The World’s End after the jump.
The film looks a little dryer/straight forward than one might hope, but coming from Wright, Pegg, and Frost we can hope for and expect a few surprises along the way. There’s definitely a strong old-friends-turned-stale vibe coupled with an alien/robot/invasion-style town of crazies. A triple viewing of the two previous films and The World’s End is in order!
Here’s an official synopsis for the film:
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
