Recently we’ve gotten sneak peaks and teaser trailers for this summer’s The Wolverine, but today the domestic and international trailers have arrived!
The film takes Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine to modern day Japan in a darker, harsher world for our claw-wielding reluctant hero. Does he become human? Is he facing his toughest challenge yet? Will we get tie-ins to previous X-men films as well as a possible link to The Avengers universe?! Check out the full-length domestic & international trailers for The Wolverine after the jump!
The Wolverine is directed by James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Cop Land) and promises to be a more somber look at the character and his internal struggles. We get a glimpse of Wolverine’s past love Jean Grey, some crazy Viper face peeling, Wolverine possibly mortal, and some extravagant Japanese scenery! Looks like Marvel is trying to tie everything together one movie at a time.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventuretakes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
The Wolverine also features characters Mariko (Tao Okamoto), a woman who needs Wolverines protection from the Yakuza, and Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova), who in the marvel universe was formerly known as Madam Hydra. Could this possibly be a way for Wolverine to join the Avengers world in the near future? Let’s hope so!
The Wolverine makes its way to theaters July 26th.
