Ryan Reynolds gets a bit stab happy in first trailer for The Voices
Ryan Reynolds has been riding along a rocky road for the past decade, and the once-familiar face might be seeing a resurgence with upcoming projects like The Voices and the recently revived Deadpool movie. Before we get to see the unfortunately under-appreciated actor in the Marvel movie he was made for, we’ll see him get a little stab happy in the indie-looking dark comedy The Voices. The first trailer for the film made the rounds not that long ago, and I’m just now getting around to giving it the post it deserves. Reynolds has dabbled in some thought-provoking cinema in the past (The Nines, Chaos Theory), so here’s hoping the guy gets another chance to make his mark.
Watch the whacky first trailer for The Voices after the jump.
Something about good-looking decapitated talking heads makes me immediately think Sin City, but it’s the other elements of the trailer that make me look forward to The Voices. Again, it’s been a while since Reynolds has had the opportunity to show a little acting prowess, and it’s films like this one that remind us the dude’s got some talent. Sure, he can crack a joke and rock the no-shirt look like it’s no one’s business, but he can also bring his A game when given the chance.
Here’s an intriguing plot synopsis for The Voices to fill us in on the sordid details:
Jerry is that chipper guy clocking the nine-to-five at a bathtub factory, with the offbeat charm of anyone who could use a few friends. With the help of his court-appointed psychiatrist, he pursues his office crush. However, the relationship takes a sudden, murderous turn after she stands him up for a date. Guided by his evil talking cat and benevolent talking dog, Jerry must decide whether to keep striving for normalcy, or indulge in a much more sinister path.
The Voices star Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick, Adi Shankar, and Jacki Weaver. You can catch the movie on VOD and in theaters on February 6, 2015.
