Could The Secret Life of Walter Mitty be Ben Stiller’s best work?
A remake of the 1947 film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty looks to be a welcome change of pace for Ben Stiller as both an actor and director (not to overlook his performance in 2010’s Greenberg). Set to a catchy tune, and full of intriguing imagery and emotional tones, the first trailer for the movie is very promising. It’s well worth the watch, and here’s hoping this is Stiller’s finest work to date.

There’s a very strong Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind vibe going on, and if Stiller takes a Jim Carrey turn, tones down the wild, and wows us with a heartfelt-yet-entertaining surreal adventure we could be in for a real treat. Given that Stiller’s last feature film directorial effort was Tropic Thunder, it’s extremely interesting to see him work the flip side of the coin with some experimental drama/romance.
Here’s an official synopsis for the film:
Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty hits theaters on December 25th and stars Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Sean Penn, Kathryn Hahn, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine.
