The Drop trailer previews a dark, driven, crime-fueled drama
Apparently, this trailer is nothing new, but I stumbled on it the other day and had to share. James Gandolfini is back (RIP) alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace in this “hard guy” drama titled The Drop. You may have seen images of Hardy cradling a puppy in his coat a long while back, and this is the movie those images came from. It looks tense, dark, and full of gangster-fueled violence, which tends to make for a good movie given a cast that can support it.
Watch the trailer for The Drop after the jump.
Tom Hardy’s voice is enough to draw me in. Man, can that guy act when given the chance. The cast looks solid, and it’s great to see Gandolifini chewing up the scenery one more time.
Here’s a ploy synopsis for The Drop:
THE DROP is a new crime drama from Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award-nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.
The Drop is scheduled for a September 19th release, and the film stars James Gandolfini, Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, John Ortiz, and Matthias Schoenaerts.
