Suicide Squad Comic Con trailer brings together the DC baddies
With all the buzz coming out of the DC camp at Comic Con this weekend, a trailer for Suicide Squad was bound to make its way online after its debut in San Diego. Unfortunately, the official release of the trailer seems to have come as an answer to the demands of fans who weren’t satisfied with the leaked version that was passed around, and director David Ayer/Warner Bros. unveiled the trailer so fans could watch it in all its glory. As is Ayer’s style, the film promises a dark, gritty, and violent tone and texture. When compared to Marvel’s fairly family-safe offerings thus far (aside from the Netflix Daredevil series and the upcoming R-rated Deadpool movie), DC’s most recent teases look downright nasty. Jared Leto’s Joker, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, and Will Smith’s Deadshot get most of the attention in the trailer, but there’s enough surrounding excitement and character sneak peeks to rival the Batman v Superman trailer that’s got fans going crazy.
If you’ve been keeping your eyes on the film, are cautiously curious, or don’t have a clue what it is, you can check out the first full-length Suicide Squad trailer after the jump.
A lot of people are whining about the leaked trailer – not so much that it leaked, but that a high quality version wasn’t immediately made available – pretty much demanding that a high quality version be released since a leak went online. That’s childish behavior. I remember a time when finding out about a new movie came from seeing a trailer in front of another film in theaters or reading about something upcoming in a magazine. Are we so spoiled that the masses are able to pressure studios and directors into releasing content? That seems to be the case, as the following strongly-worded paragraph accompanied the official release of the Suicide Squad trailer:
Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday,” says Sue Kroll, President Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures said the following in a statement: “We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.
And director David Ayer was also none too happy about the leak and following forced release:
Shame our sneak peek Hall H footage was leaked. #notcool it’s unfair to the fans who waited in line. And not how I intended folks to see it.

Just today I had some (cue crotchety old man voice) young punk kid telling me that the same thing should happen to the Deadpool trailer as well because, “it’s hurting their brand” to hold back marketing material. Seriously, how spoiled have we become as film fans and must-have-it-now consumers? No official plot synopsis for the movie has been released yet, so we’ll have to wait before those details are revealed.
Suicide Squad stars Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Scott Eastwood, Ben Affleck, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Cara Delevingne, Common, Adam Beach, and Jay Hernandez. The movie was directed by David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) and is scheduled for theatrical release on August 5, 2016.
