Joe Carnahan’s low-budget limo driver movie gets a trailer
The latest from action heavy-hitter Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team) focuses on a down-on-his-luck limo driver who needs to make some quick cash, and the first trailer for Stretch sees Patrick Wilson getting a little zany to rake in the dough. The plot seems pretty straightforward, but it’s the straightforward-looking ones that sometimes throw you for a loop and turn out to be a lot of fun. When the film was first hinted at way back in 2012, Carnahan spoke of it as a “stripped down, bare bones basics” low-budget piece, and the quick glimpse we get into this wacky limo driver’s unfortunate predicament is an entertaining little preview.
Take a look at the kind of filmmaking that can still happen for under $5 million, and watch the first trailer for Stretch after the jump.
The film feels like a strange mix of Dude, Where’s My Car?, The Hangover movies for some reason, and good ol’ fashioned character-driven crazy times, with a mix of madness twisted up in there somewhere. That said, no matter what it looks like at this point, I’m intrigued. It’ll be interesting to see what Carnahan does on the big screen after his gut punch The Grey.
Here’s a short plot synopsis for Stretch pulled from the movie’s IMDb page:
A hard-luck limo driver struggling to go straight and pay off a debt to his bookie takes on a job with a crazed passenger whose sought-after ledger implicates some seriously dangerous criminals.
Stretch stars Patrick Wilson, Ray Liotta, Jessica Alba, Chris Pine, Brooklyn Decker, Ed Helms, Norman Reedus, and James Badge Dale. The film is scheduled to see theatrical release later this fall, but it’ll be available much earlier. Look for it on Amazon and iTunes October 7th (tomorrow), and then on VOD October 14th.
