Foley is the art of making all the fun little sound effects in a film
When it comes to appreciating a film for its merits the little things often go unnoticed. Foley, the practice and practical magic of adding atmospheric sounds to a film, is one of those little things. From the noise tight leather makes when an actor moves to the sandpaper scrape of dirt under foot, foley fills in the cracks and provides the sound effects that might have been missed or overlooked during shooting.
TheChive recently posted a video taking a peak behind the scenes of foley artists at work, and the craft is an interesting one to say the least. If you’re intrigued by the intricacies of filmmaking check out the video after the jump!
Very cool stuff. Once again, it’s the little things that help make a movie everything it is. Try thinking about all the bits and pieces of sound that foley artists brought to life the next time you watch a movie!
