Venom rears its head in second trailer for Tom Hardy comic book movie
A new trailer for Venom, the upcoming Tom Hardy antihero movie, quickly hit the internet and then just as quickly got washed away by the wave that was Avengers: Infinity War. Fortunately, the second trailer for the film is much more intriguing and entertaining than the first, so it’s still worth going back and giving it a re-watch if you’re feeling frisky. I’m still not sure how to feel about this movie or the casting of Hardy in the lead, and I’ve been burned before by outlier superhero/comic book adaptations in the past, so I’m staying cautiously optimistic as far as Venom is concerned.
Whether you’re on the fence like me or can’t wait to see the iconic symbiote wrap itself around Tom Hardy and wreak some havoc, you can check out the new trailer below.
This really should have been the first trailer released for Venom. I don’t know what marketing was thinking releasing that ambiguous, Venom-less trailer in February that did very little to tease or tempt viewers, and this second trailer feels much more fleshed out and engaging. What do you think? Ready to see a Venom movie now? At the very least, we’ll get a paint-by-numbers superhero/antihero story arc with a few fun CGI moments. At best, Venom might surprise us all and land somewhere between what Disney/Marvel has been dishing out and a less quippy Deadpool. After all, director Ruben Fleischer came out of nowhere and pleasantly surprised with Zombieland, even if his follow-ups 30 Minutes or Less and Gangster Squad didn’t fully deliver. Here, he’s got a lot of great source material to pull from, and a concept/character that fans have been waiting to see done right, so again…cautiously optimistic.
Here’s what little we have by way of an official plot synopsis for Venom right now:
One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
Venom stars Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, and Michelle Lee. The movie hits theaters on October 5, 2018.
