Sausage Party red band trailer sees food screaming obscenities
Yesterday, Seth Rogen’s Twitter teased the first trailer for Sausage Party, and today the trailer dropped. Rogen’s R-rated animated comedy looks like a Pixar project gone wrong, and there’s a good chance parents will furiously walk their toddlers out of theaters when this raunchy food cartoon is released this August. The first red band trailer teases an ensemble voice cast full of Rogen’s pals dropping the f-bomb and screaming, but reviews out of SXSW are relatively positive. Here’s hoping the movie is a little more than an R-rated Toy Story with food.

Sausage Party is being billed with the names of Seth Rogen and his writing buddy Evan Goldberg front and center, and at first glance you’d think this was just another semi-vanity stoner project. There’s a moment in the trailer where Rogen’s hotdog exhales smoke, and I can just imagine a stoned conversation between Rogen and Goldberg that consisted of one or the other flopping around a wiener screaming about being eaten.
But what surprised me most was to learn the two directors, Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, are responsible for kid-friendly movies like Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Thomas and Friends. So many Thomas and Friends movies and TV episodes. So, how did these two guys get involved with a very R-rated animated food sex comedy? Maybe this is the collaboration both Tiernan and Vernon were dreaming to tackle one day. Your guess is as good as mine, but those Shrek movies sure had plenty of innuendo going on.
