The trailer for Ron Howard’s new film Rush
Update: Now with domestic trailer and new poster
Ron Howard is solid as a director, mostly across the board, and for his latest film Rush he’s chosen to tackle the fast-paced world of Formula 1 racing. Starring an interesting-accented Chris Hemsworth, Rush looks like a tale of young blood inspiring old bones to get back in the racing harness.
Check out the brand new trailer below the jump.
Not too shabby, eh? Rush takes a fictional look at the near-fatal crash and turnaround recovery of real-life Formula 1 racer Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl). Weeks after Bruhl’s crash he was back behind the wheel challenging his rival James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).
And here’s the latest domestic trailer:
Aside from Howard’s more recent The Dilemma, the director has had a fairly entertaining and emotionally inviting film history. Rush appears to be bringing the man back to a heavier character drama, and that can only be a good thing. No more Vince Vaughn/Kevin James comedies, please and thank you, Mr. Howard.
Rush stars Chris Hemsworth (The Cabin in the Woods, Thor) as James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds) as Niki Lauda, and some familiar faces fill out the supporting cast. Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy) as well as Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) and Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones) will show up in some capacity.
Here’s an official synopsis for the film:
Two-time Academy Award® winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon), teams once again with fellow two-time Academy Award® nominee, writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), on Rush, a spectacular big-screen re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.
Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.
Rush roars into theaters on September 20th of this year.
