Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie trailer finally debuts
Taking the internet somewhat by surprise, the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debuted early this morning. Didn’t know another, non-Star Wars Episode VIII movie was coming? Well, now you do! Rogue One looks like it plans to fill in some gaps in the original trilogy’s storyline, showing us just how those Bothans died stealing the original Death Star plans.
We’ve got a new female lead, Forrest Whitaker is some sweet armor (yes, that Forest Whitaker), and what appears to be Star Wars samurai. Plus, AT-ATs and old school stormtroopers! Fans are going a little crazy for this thing.

What do you think? I’m curious, to say the least. There’s a lot of talent involved in Rogue One, with familiar faces filling out new characters and old characters making new appearances. Director Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) is at the helm, and he’s got a handful of reliably top-notch actors taking sides. Looks like it could be a lot of fun.
If this is the first you’re hearing of Rogue One, shame on you. It’s been teased almost since Disney got its hands on Star Wars, and it’ll be interesting to see a big-screen movie outside of the nine main films (Episodes I-IX) become canon. Here’s a plot synopsis for Rogue One to fill us all in:
Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Alistair Petrie, and Genevieve O’Reilly. The movie hits theaters December 6, 2016.
