Bob’s back in the first teaser for Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk! 2
Unashamedly, I’ve been following the development of Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk! 2, the sequel to the counterculture cult classic from 1998, since it got its first tattoo in the form of a successful crowdfunding campaign. Director James Merendino is currently editing the movie together, but he took to Facebook to announce to fans that all is going well and a final cut is coming together.
Always shed a tear for Heroin Bob? Hold a soft spot in your heart for the original? Simply curious what almost two decades have done to the Merendino punk scene? Watch the first teaser for Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk! 2 after the jump.
As an adolescent, SCL Punk! was a must-watch movie for me every few months along with other “underground” paradigm molders like Fight Club and Requiem for a Dream, and I still pop the orange and green DVD into the player on occasion to relive those glory days. Oddly enough, either I’ve grown up a little bit like Stevo and don’t quite connect with the scene anymore, or maybe the sequel is trying to take a peak at what it’s like leaping that generation gap from the young-and-bleading to the heavily-seasoned-and-slightly-burnt punk.
Regardless, I’m curious to see more and look forward to an official full-length trailer in the near future. No official plot synopsis has been released yet, but the film focuses on an evolving punk named Ross (son of Herion Bob; played by Ben Schnetzer) and friends (played by Machine Gun Kelly, Hannah Marks, and Jenny Jaffe). A few familiar faces are confirmed to make appearances or play supporting characters, and in the teaser you can see Bob (Michael Goorjian), Sean (Devon Sawa), John the Mod (James Duval), and Eddie (Adam Pascal). Trish (recast as Sarah Clarke) is sure to show her face, while Mark (Til Schweiger) is rumored but not confirmed and Stevo (Matthew Lillard) is unfortunately not returning, as far as I know.
Merendino briefly said of of this new teaser:
“I am now in New York editing Punk’s Dead and it’s looking really good. It’s a long process so I wanted to give you a little tease so you can see a bit of what I’m up to. In this teaser you will get a glimpse at familiar faces and I briefly introduce Bob’s son, Ross. I am not revealing all of the characters or even much of the story. There’s more, much more but you have been so supportive that I wanted to show that there is indeed a movie on there. Enjoy.”
When something new and official for the film surfaces it’ll get a post, so keep your eyes open for more Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk! 2 news. In the meantime, give the first movie a re-watch or go eat some acid in the hills, but you didn’t get the idea from me!
