Michael Bay‘s next film Pain and Gain looks to be a semi-ridiculous robbery caper of sorts starring Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg. If some slow motion head taser action, a seductive Rebel Wilson, small dogs munching down on toes, Ed Harris for some reason, and some good ol’ fashioned ‘Merica money spendin’ is up your alley then check out the trailer after the jump.
From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes “Pain & Gain,” a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson and Bar Paly also star. The film is based on magazine articles by Pete Collins, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and produced by Donald DeLine, Michael Bay and Ian Bryce.
Looks like we’re in for some fun. Michael Bay’s been in Transformers world for so long it’s nice to see him bringing something different to the table. Pain and Gain is step back from the CG-laden robots, and the film appears to be focused more on character driven humor. Anthony Mackie is a bit bumbly. Rebel Wilson will probably steal the scenes she’s in. I honestly don’t know why Ed Harris is here. We’ll also probably get a good bit of slow-motion, so there’s that.
Knowing the film is based on a true story, however loosely based that may be, is intriguing, but does that mean there’s a good chance Johnson and Wahlberg’s characters get busted in the end? Only time will tell, and we’ll find out when Pain and Gain hits theaters on April 26th.
