J.J. Abrams brings us Nazi zombies in first Overlord trailer
The first trailer for Overlord parachuted in mid-July, but I’ve been under the weather in a big way and wasn’t able to share. Fortunately, a brand new poster for the upcoming Nazi zombie movie dropped just yesterday, so it seemed like a prime time to tease the movie with its trailer. Overlord comes to us from producer J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot and is helmed by director Julius Avery (Son of a Gun). Abrams is adamant that the movie is not a Cloverfield sequel, but he’s been known to lie before. There aren’t really any overt Cloverfield threads left dangling to unravel in the trailer, but only time will tell what Overlord is or is not.
If you haven’t seen it yet, or if you need a Nazi zombie refresher (who doesn’t), give the first trailer for Overlord a watch:
Overlord looks like an engaging, atmospheric World War Two movie worth checking out, at the very least, but when Nazi zombies and a mysterious serum are thrown into the mix audiences are always in for a treat. Granted, the formula is pretty color-by-numbers as far as Nazi horror B movies go–scientists performing secret experiments lead to murderous monsters–but this one looks like it’ll be a bit more Dead Snow than Iron Sky. What I mean by that is, Overlord is taking itself more seriously than moon bases and Hitler riding a T-rex, and I’m looking forward to something more horror/thriller than laugh-out-loud ridiculousness.
Here’s the official Overlord plot synopsis to sink your teeth into:
On the eve of D-Day, paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to carry out a crucial mission for the invasion. As they approach their target, they soon begin to realize there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.
Overlord stars Wyatt Russell, John Magaro, Bokeem Woodbine, Pilou Asbæk, Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Mathilde Ollivier, and Iain De Caestecker. The movie hits theaters on November 8, 2018.
