The new film Only God Forgives from stylistic director Nicolas Winding Refn (Valhalla Rising, Bronson, Drive) now has a red band trailer! Ryan Gosling pairs up with Refn once more as a kickboxing gangster in Bangkok looking to settle a score, and the trailer promises the style and violence we’ve grown to love in a Refn film.

Man do I love me some Nicolas Winding Refn! Can’t wait for this one. The madness and beauty we got from the last outing between Gosling and Refn brought us the atmospheric film Drive. Only God Forgives continues that awesomeness in a Bangkok setting.

Here’s an official synopsis for Only God Forgives:

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

Refn seems to have found a fashionably intense yet subtle front man in Gosling, so let’s hope we see a few more film pairings between the two in the future.
