The Neon Demon trailer previews another beautiful Refn vision
The first trailer for The Neon Demon is here, and it’s objectively beautiful. I’m an unashamed fan of everything Nicolas Winding Refn has done, from Pusher and Valhalla Rising to Bronson, Driver, and Only God Forgives, and the director most certainly has an eye for breathtaking cinema. The Neon Demon looks like it opens up Refn’s color palette a bit, and I’m already in love with the aesthetic the movie appears to revel in. Refn calls this one his horror movie, and people are preemptively making comparison’s to Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan as well as the work of Dario Argento, so the The Neon Demon is already in good company. We’ll have to wait for theatrical release to see the big picture, and as of now there’s no scheduled release date to look forward to.
That said, the trailer for The Neon Demon is worth multiple viewings if you’re a fan of the man behind the camera. Plus, Elle Fanning looks primed to seduce and disturb, both of which Refn does well. Check out the trailer for the movie after the jump!
Unfortunately for those wanting to jump into theater seats ASAP, The Neon Demon only just announced its world premiere at Cannes in May. That means no U.S. release date has been secured, so definitely keep your eyes on this one if it’s up your alley. Same goes for an official plot synopsis. The trailer does a great job of teasing without revealing. We can guess at hints of high fashion photography and sexual exploration, but I’m digging how most is left to the imagination at this point. Hopefully that’s the way marketing will keep The Neon Demon until it’s released, in the dark for the most part.
UPDATE: A short 30-second international trailer has also been released for the movie, and it’s just as intriguing:
The Neon Demon stars Elle Fanning, Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves, Jena Malone, Bella Heathcote, Alessandro Nivola, Abbey Lee, and Desmond Harrington.
