The site is still running behind due to personal problems, but all is not lost! There’s been a lot happening in the world of film, and Midroad Movie Review is still dedicated fishing out the tasty bits from the sea of floating garbage, rumors of rumors, and blurry on-set photos.
Catching up, some great new trailers have come out that build a bit of anticipation for upcoming movies, and three in particular caught my eye. This movie trailer trio post takes a look at trailers for X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Charlie Countryman. Three very different films previewed in three very different trailers!
Watch all three, and read a synopsis of the films, after the jump.
Bryan Singer plays with time in X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer
The beginning of the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past feels like Professor X has “Someday, Logan, they will join you in the sun” on the tip of his tongue, and it’s a little strange to get some Man of Steel vibes early on. That said, Singer’s latest dive into the ever-growing Marvel pond aims to bring two versions of the X-Men together for some time bending fantasy and comic book-inspired adventure. Seeing both young and old Magneto and Professor X in the same film, on top of what looks to be a handful of new mutants and a time traveling Wolverine, could be a lot of fun.
Here’s a synopsis for X-Men: Days of Future Past pulled from the movie’s Facebook page:
The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.
X-Men: Days of Future Past stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Evan Peters, Halle Berry, Lucas Till, Daniel Cudmore, and many many more as new mutants. The film storms into theaters May 23rd, 2014.
Wes Anderson and pals return for hotel hostility and hijinks
Probably my favorite of the three trailers, this look into Wes Anderson’s latest The Grand Budapest Hotel makes the film feel like a fun-for-the-whole-family roller coaster ride of wackiness. That’s a positive observation, and the movie presented in the trailer looks to be more accessible than previous Anderson outings. Most of the gang is back, and Willem Dafoe’s strange character looks like a good time. Also, blink and you’ll miss them, but Jude Law and Harvey Keitel make quick appearances.
Here’s a synopsis for The Grand Budapest Hotel
THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.
The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune — all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent.
The Grand Budapest Hotel stars Adrien Brody, Ralph Feinnes, Saoirse Ronan, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Harvey Keitel, Tom Wilkinson, Jason Schwartzman, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, and F. Murray Abraham. It opens in theaters March 7th, 2014.
Shia LeBeouf dives headfirst into Charlie Countryman
Shia Lebouf confirmed he went the method acting route and took L.S.D. to prepare for a drug-fueled in his newest film Charlie Countryman, and whether that makes the film better or not is still to be determined. If the trailer is any indication, the movie could be an adventurous leap down the rabbit hole for an all-grown-up Louis Stevens.
Here’s the synopsis for Charlie Countryman:
When his late mother appears in a vision and tells him to go to Bucharest, Charlie immediately boards a plane across the Atlantic. But when he meets a fellow passenger, Charlie finds himself with another promise to fulfill. Charlie does so – and falls head over heels in love with Gabi, a beautiful musician. However, a vicious gangster has already laid claim to Gabi, and has no intention of letting her go. Determined to protect her, Charlie enters into the hallucinatory, Romanian underworld filled with violence and, strangely enough, love.
Charlie Countryman stars Shia Lebouf, Rupert Grint, Evan Rachel Wood, Mads Mikkelsen, Vincent D’Onofrio, Melissa Leo, John Hurt, and Til Schwieger. The film is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on November 5th.
