Two trailers for Fassbender’s darkly funny Slow West western
Slow West has been available on DirecTV since mid-April (I’m still not sure how I feel about these weird separate release schedules), but the movie isn’t making its way to theaters until next weekend. So, if you haven’t seen Michael Fassbender’s wild dark comedy of a western, you can either give it a watch at home or look for it locally on May 15th. Or, if you’re shaking your head thinking, “Wait, Michael Fassbender made a western? A new one?” you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the first two trailers for the movie that were passed around a little while ago. I was slow on the draw with these (see what I did there), but the movie looks beautiful and these were worth sharing.
Watch the first and second trailers for Slow West, and check out the first poster, after the jump.
With an almost Coen Brothers/True Grit vibe going on, Slow West looks like it’ll have some humor interwoven into the violence inherent to the era. I loved the shot of Kodi Smit-McPhee looking down at the mushroom. Is it tied to the scene we see of him shooting into the stars? Does that mean we can expect a great western shrooming scene? I could get on board with that.
Here’s a short plot synopsis for Slow West for those who’re unfamiliar with the film:
At the end of the nineteenth century, 16-year-old Jay Cavendish (Kodi Smit-McPhee) journeys across the American frontier in search of the woman he loves. He is joined by Silas (Michael Fassbender), a mysterious traveler, and hotly pursued by an outlaw along the way.
Slow West stars Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Mendelsohn, Caren Pistorius, Rory McCann, and Brooke Williams. Again, the movie is already available on DirecTV Cinema, and you can hopefully catch it in theaters May 15, 2015.
