The Magnificent Seven trailer assembles a few familiar faces
Yesterday saw a handful of first look images pop up for Antoine Fuqua‘s remake of The Magnificent Seven, and today a trailer followed. The first trailer makes the movie look more shoot-em-up and action driven than it does meditative and dramatic, but that’s to be expected. That said, we’ve got a handful of always entertaining actors joining forces to bring us back to the Wild West, and The Magnificent Seven is sure to attract an audience when it’s released in theaters this fall. Just the mention of Denzel Washington dressed in black and Chris Pratt doing a flying 180 while firing a revolver is enough to fill seats, but film fans are also probably pretty curious how the property is being treated. For a remake of a remake, there’s some history here.
Watch the first trailer for The Magnificent Seven and read a plot synopsis for the movie after the jump.
Looks like fun. Admittedly, I’m more familiar with Seven Samurai (the original Akira Kurosawa film that inspired the 1960 American reimagining), so a remake of the also classic western doesn’t bother me as much as it may some people. There are shoes to fill and performances to live up to, but overall it looks like we’ll get a pretty entertaining western with an enjoyable ensemble cast. Plus, even though we don’t see him in the trailer, Vinnie Jones is listed in the cast. I love watching that guy be bad, so here’s hoping Fuqua lets him loose.
For those unfamiliar with Seven Samurai or the older version of the American remake, here’s a plot synopsis for The Magnificent Seven:
With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Washington), Josh Farraday (Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Hawke), Jack Horne (D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Lee), Vasquez (Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
The Magnificent Seven stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Haley Bennett, Byung-hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Matt Bomer, Peter Sarsgaard, Vinnie Jones, William Lee Scott, Cam Gigandet, Sean Bridgers, and Luke Grimes . The movie hits theaters on September 23, 2016.
