The Legend of Tarzan trailer tames the wild Skarsgard
The first trailer for The Legend of Tarzan actually makes the live-action remake/re-telling/re-imagining look pretty good, and the movie has a strong cast backing up Alexander Skarsgard in the lead role. The preview builds nicely, and the story focuses on Tarzan 10 years after he’s left the jungle.

There have been plenty of Tarzan stories focused on the character and relationships originally created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, from Burroughs himself and others, and this time around it’s David Yates (Harry Potter 4-7) paying homage and twisting his own tale. The Legend of Tarzan is seemingly coming out of nowhere, and with the cast carrying it I’m surprised it’s taken so long for us to finally get a good look at the movie. This is the kind of movie that could have cast teen heartthrobs as the leads and slid under the radar, but instead it looks like an epic jungle adventure worth watching for the talent alone. Throw in a new story, back it up with decent CGI, and we might be in for one wild ride come next summer. What did you think of the trailer?
To fill in some details, here’s a plot synopsis for The Legend of Tarzan 2016:
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
The Legend of Tarzan stars Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, John Hurt, and Djimon Hounsou. The movie swings into theaters July 1, 2016, which is also the release date of Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of The BFG.
