Second Kong: Skull Island trailer sets a crazy, creepy tone
Kong: Skull Island swooped in with a new trailer late last night to introduce us to the big bad monsters inhabiting the island with the iconic ape. The movie is dripping with style, which is generating mixed reactions, but I’m personally loving the look and feel of this reboot. Lots of saturated colors, plenty of jaw-dropping moments, and a cast that’s capable of elevating even the strangest material. All signs point to Kong: Skull Island being a blast, but we’ll have to wait until it hits theaters next spring before we can be sure.
Check out the brand new Kong: Skull Island trailer and see two new posters for the movie after the jump.
The first trailer for Kong: Skull Island introduced the humans invading the island, and this new trailer creeps and crawls with the other monsters that call it home. Spiders and Skull Crawlers! Plus, that water buffalo is huge. What do you think? Excited for Skull Island?
Director Jordon Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) seems to be another in a line of directors who leapt from small indie gem first film to top-tier blockbuster second film territory, so it’s safe to be at least a little wary before the movie is released. We’ve seen similar instances go bad (Josh Trank – Chronicle to Fantastic Four), do moderately well (Gareth Edwards – Monsters to Godzilla), and do gangbusters while being pretty entertaining (Colin Trevorrow – Safety Not Guaranteed to Jurassic World). Kong: Skull Island boasts more on-screen, A-list talent and just looks like fun, so here’s hoping Vogt-Roberts hits it out of the park.
There’s a lengthy press release that’s been attached to the movie since the first trailer dropped, but it’s mostly studio filler and artistic talent involved. Here’s the brief snippet of plot synopsis for Kong: Skull Island that’s buried in the press release copy:
In the film, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific – as beautiful as it is treacherous – unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.
Kong: Skull Island is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and stars Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell, John C. Reilly, John Ortiz, Corey Hawkins, Thomas Mann, Tian Jing, and Jason Mitchell. The movie stomps into theaters next spring on March 10, 2017.
