Jason Bourne trailer sees a strong cast navigating deep sequel territory
Jason Bourne is, believe it or not, the fifth movie in the Bourne franchise. The first trailer for the movie finally dropped, and it’s more punching, running, and control room than it is revealing in any way. That said, if you’re a fan of the franchise and felt the last Bourne movie was missing something (namely Matt Damon), this one’s most likely made for you. Director Paul Greengrass is returning, and his brand of action is sure to be on full display. That’s a mixed bag, depending on how you feel about the movies.

What do you think? Again, not much revealed outside of “Oh, look! It’s Jason Bourne!” which has been the backbone for at least a few of these movies. Personally, outside of the initial appeal of The Bourne Identity, there’s really nothing that keeps me coming back to the Bourne series, and I’m not really sure what’s keeping this franchise alive. What the series needed was Doug Liman (the director of The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) taking another crack at it instead of the shaky cam, too-close-for-comfort camera work of Greengrass. But that’s just, like, my opinion though, man.
Not much has been unveiled about the movie yet, the official site for Jason Bourne is pretty scarce, and the poster (below) even keeps us in the dark. It’s hard to think there’s much more left to unravel other than Bourne being “drawn out of the shadows” to find out more about the program he was in or the people who were behind it. Which has been done. Looks like Julia Stiles is at his side this go-around, and a few fresh faces are filling in control room quarterback positions. Only time will tell if this installment stands out.
Jason Bourne stars Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, Alicia Vikander, and Riz Ahmed. You can catch the movie in theaters on July 29, 2016.
