I’m not a fan of musicals, but strangely enough the trailer had me smiling knowing how many people were going to fall in love with this movie when it hits theaters. Besides, the world needed some new songs outside of the Frozen few that invaded the airwaves when that bomb hit a while back, right?
Here’s an official plot synopsis for Into the Woods to help unravel the twisted fairy tale:
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them. Into the Woods based on the Tony-winning original musical by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, surrounds a baker and his wife’s quest to break a witch’s curse in order to start a family. Along the way, they encounter several well-known fairy tale characters, and together they learn what happens after “happily ever after”.
These kind of projects usually attract an impressive cast, and Into the Woods boasts some of the best with Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Billy Magnussen, Mackenzie Mauzy, Daniel Huttlestone, Lilla Crawford, Tracey Ullman, Joanna Riding, Christine Baranski, Tammy Blanchard, Lucy Punch, Richard Glover, Frances de la Tour, Simon Russell Beale, and many more singing their hearts out! The movie opens in theaters on December 25, 2014.
