Doug Glatt is back in Goon 2: Last of the Enforcers trailer
The trailer for Goon: Last of the Enforcers was released a while back previewing the sequel to the under-watched hockey hit Goon from 2011. The trailer is short and sweet, but Seann William Scott’s lovable portrayal of real-life bruiser Doug Glatt is back on the ice. There are few more familiar faces in the cast this time around, but for the most part it looks like everyone from the original has returned. Personally, I hope there’s a reason director/star Jay Baruchel decided Goon needed a sequel other than wanting more hockey fights and profanity, but if not I’m sure Goon 2 will be just as enjoyable as the first. That said, the nice-guy-who-kicks-ass schtick may wear a little thin given we’ve seen it before, and I can only take so much Baruchel spouting randomly dirty things, so fingers crossed for a strong story element.
Watch the short trailer, read a plot synopsis, and check out the poster for Goon: Last of the Enforcers after the jump.
Again, not much on display here other than hockey, brawls, and Baruchel humping, but I’m optimistic. For one, girl next door Elisha Cuthbert has joined the cast as what appears to be a possible new love interest, and the rest of Scott’s team are worth a laugh here and there. Same jokes, same fights, same movie? Only time will tell.
Other than “he’s back,” I really don’t know what more fans need, but here’s an official plot synopsis for Goon 2: Last of the Enforcers.
After one too many concussions, hockey enforcer Doug Glatt is forced to give up his aspirations of going to the big show and settle into a buttoned down career as an insurance salesman at the urging of his pregnant wife Eva. However, Doug can’t resist the siren call of the Highlanders, so he sets course to reclaim his former glory.
Baruchel has also said of the movie:
This is about an age that’s drawing to a close. It’s a role, the goon, that’s going out of fashion. It was the stuff of talking heads when we made the first movie, about whether or not these guys have a place and how much of a place they should have. This is even more so now. It’s timed out perfectly to what we wanted to say about Doug’s career. If we do our jobs telling the story right, then Doug is the prototype and represents a bygone era. He’s the last cowboy during The Depression, sort of thing. That’s the goal of the story we’re trying to tell.
Goon: Last of the Enforcers stars Seann William Scott, Alison Pill, Jay Baruchel, Elisha Cuthbert, Liev Schreiber, T.J. Miller, Kim Coates, and Wyatt Russell. The movie has no official U.S. release date yet, but it hits theaters in Canada on March 17, 2017.
