Gone Girl trailer subtly teases a dark thriller
Director David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network) hasn’t had a movie in theaters since 2011’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but his latest, Gone Girl, just got its first teaser trailer. The movie is based on the novel of the same name written by Gillian Flynn, but in a fun twist Flynn was called in to write a brand new ending for the on-screen adaptation. That means if you’ve read the book you’ll have to buy a ticket to see how this version pans out, which could be a mixed bag.
Regardless, you owe it to yourself to check out the brand new trailer for Gone Girl. It’s atmospheric, subtly dark, and intriguingly light on details. Give it a watch after the jump
If I’m being honest, I know very little about this movie. That said, David Fincher has always been solid when it comes to dark, gritty drama and an engaging story, so Gone Girl is going on my must-watch list for that reason alone.
If you’re in the same boat as me, here’s a plot synopsis to help clarify some details:
Marriage can be a real killer. On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?
Gone Girl stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Missi Pyle, Patrick Fugit, Kim Dickens, Scoot McNairy, Emily Ratajkowski, and Sela Ward. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on October 3rd, 2014.
