Trailer for David O. Russell’s new film American Hustle debuts
Yesterday some new official images popped up for American Hustle, and today the trailer is starting to make the rounds. The Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale-starring counterfeit film is David O. Russell’s follow-up to Silver Linings Playbook, and it’s nice to see the director continue to go in different directions with his projects. Taking a cue from the Ridley Scott’s recent reveal of Javier Bardem for his new film, Russell appears to be decorating his actors with some less-than-appealing hair styles. Granted, it was the 70’s.
Watch the first (somewhat grainy) trailer for American Hustle after the jump.
NOTE: Will update when a higher res version comes out.
Not too shabby. Again, it’s great to see Russell not get stuck in a genre rut.
Here’s the official synopsis courtesy of Collider:
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.
American Hustle stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner,Robert De Niro, Michael Pena, Louis C.K., and Jack Huston and opens in theaters December 25th.
