Trailer for ’71 establishes a bad predicament
Jack O’Connell has been quietly making a name for himself, and the talented actor continues to impress in the first trailer for the war-time drama ’71. The movie focuses on a British soldier who gets separated from his unit and has to survive in a hostile neighborhood of Belfast, and the trailer does a great job of establishing the tense situation, the hostile natives, and a young soldier just trying to make it home alive. Keep your eyes open for this one!
Watch the first trailer for ’71 after the jump.
At first glance, the movie feltĀ a bit like the Bruce Willis-starring 16 Blocks, which probably isn’t a fair comparison, but traversing a neighborhood in which almost everyone wants to kill you did seem a little familiar. That said, this movie just jumped onto my radar, and it looks like one definitely worth catching.
Here’s a short plot synopsis for ’71:
A young British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a terrifying riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, the raw recruit must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorienting, alien and deadly landscape.
’71 stars Jack O’Connell, Sam Reid, Sean Harris, Charlie Murphy, Paul Anderson, Richard Dormer, and David Wilmot. No U.S. release date has been announced yet, but the film opened in the U.K. earlier this month.
