Salma Hayek tries to survive assassins in first Everly trailer
The first trailer for the Salma Hayek-starring shoot ’em up Everly hit the Web today, and the movie appears to be a fantastic sidestep for director Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom) in terms of content and character development. The trailer sees Hayek holed up in her apartment fighting off an onslaught of assassins, and it’s a lot of fun. Right now, the movie is being coined as Hayek’s Die Hard, which is a good thing for both the actress and the director. Fingers are crossed that it kicks ass!
The trailer’s a little dark for some reason (visually not tonally), but you can check it out after the jump.
It’s great to see Hayek still taking names and filling bad guys with holes, and it’s even more satisfying to see what Lynch has been up to since his intriguing-yet-ultimately-disappointing freshman film. His sophomore attempt looks like a blast!
Here’s a plot synopsis for Everly to fill us in on the film’s details:
It’s Christmas time, but all is not well in the world of Everly (Salma Hayek). A call girl by trade, Everly has turned against her gangster boss Taiko (Hiroyuki Watanabe) and become a police informant. In response, Taiko has put out a hit on Everly and her family. Soon, every criminal in town wants to cash in. Everly’s survival instincts quickly kick in as she matches wits and firepower with Taiko and a seemingly endless stream of killers.
Everly stars Salma Hayek, Togo Igawa, Jennifer Blanc, Caroline Chikezie, Gabriella Wright, and Hiroyuki Watanabe. The movie makes its way to VOD on January 23 and then theaters on February 27, 2015.
