Dumb and Dumber To shows Harry and Lloyd haven’t learned a thing
Peter and Bobby Farrelly are back with arguably their most iconic characters in a sequel to arguably their most enjoyable film, and the long-awaited trailer for Dumb and Dumber To has finally arrived. Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey return to form as Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas, and if the new trailer says anything about their 20 year absence it’s that the duo have gotten unknowingly naughtier but not a bit smarter. The movie looks like a strange mixed bag of dirty/shock humor and a reliving of old gags and lines that the filmmakers think fans are going to expect.
That said, it’s probably necessary to let you know the first trailer for Dumb and Dumber To is kind of NSFW, but it’s worth a watch for curiosity’s sake if nothing else. Check it out after the jump.
It’s hard to know whether to be excited or a little disgusted after seeing that, right? Especially given the innocently silly trailer for the original Dumb and Dumber from way back in 1994. The difference is pretty ridiculous. Here’s hoping the Farrellys didn’t trade what made the original so enjoyable, an almost-believable innocence and likable stupidity, for modern-day gross-out humor and over-the-top antics.
The plot for Dumb and Dumber To is spelled out pretty plainly in the trailer, but here’s a little snippet that’s been making the rounds:
Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To. The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.
One could argue “Why?” when faced with something like Dumb and Dumber To, but in today’s cinemascape there’s always someone out there who’s going to respond with “Why not?” Guess we’ll just have to save judgement until the movie comes out.
Dumber and Dumber To stars Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Kathleen Turner, Laurie Holden, Rob Riggle, Cam Nealy (Sea Bass), and Rachel Melvin. It’s scheduled for a November 14th release.
