Magic Magic may be the creepiest we’ve ever seen Michael Cera. His character in the film is quiet, calm, and obviously a little unhinged under the surface, but it makes for a fascinating watch as he softly torments Juno Temple.
Ready to have your perceptions of the wee little Cera turned upside down? Watch the trailer for Magic Magic after the jump.
Unsettlingly somber, it would seem, the film feels familiar in style and content to the Elizabeth Olson-starring cult film Martha Marcy May Marlene of a few years back. That said, IMDb has a brief yet generic synopsis that makes it sound like a touristy thriller of sorts:
In remote Chile, a vacationing young woman begins to mentally unravel; meanwhile, her friends ignore her claim until it’s too late.
Starring Michael Cera, Juno Temple, and Emily Browning, Magic Magic unfortunately hasn’t garnered enough buzz to have it picked up by a studio. Film School Rejects points out that while the film played well at Sundance we won’t be seeing it on the big screen any time soon. Sony Pictures is sending it straight to video on August 6th.
If it looks up your alley keep an eye open for it on home video in the next few months.
