First trailer and official poster for Captain America: Civil War
The first trailer for Captain America: Civil War just debuted, and what brief snippets we see of the upcoming Marvel movie makes it look like a solid Captain America story first and foremost. Coincidentally, I had Age of Ultron on the TV when I noticed the Civil War trailer had just popped up, and it felt like an obligation to share as soon as possible. As sad or exciting as you may consider the idea, it seems like the current cinemascape revolves around the superhero film genre (mostly Marvel at this point), so the media kind of grinds to a halt and overanalyzes a new trailer when it rears its head. No doubt articles and dissections will surface soon. That said, I’m not above the hype at times, and I felt it was worth sharing the first Civil War trailer before the novelty of it actually appearing turns into a sea of murky what-ifs and speculation making the rounds.
So, whether you’re a fan of Marvel movies or simply want to see what’s going on with the ol’ gang, watch the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War after the jump.
Anthony and Joe Russo are back directing, and the brothers brought a *insert cliche* (I’m choosing grounded and gritty) feel to Winter Soldier, which was great. Many fans consider Winter Soldier to be one of the better Marvel movies to-date, so it’s exciting thinking about seeing what more the brother directors can bring to the table. At this point in the game, it feels like every new film in the franchise could be an Avengers entry, but fans and movie-goers everywhere keep eating them up and anticipating the next in what seems to be a never-ending phenomena. I’ll be seeing this one, so again I’m not above shelling out and enjoying some superhero escapism. The trailer gives us glimpses of new characters with scheduled solo films (Black Panther), a fracturing of alliances, and a painful bro beat down between Iron Man, Captain America, and Bucky/Winter Soldier. Call me curious.
In case you’re not one of the Marvel fans searching for spoilers with a magnifying glass, here’s an official plot synopsis for Captain America: Civil War to fill in some details:
“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johannson, Martin Freeman, Daniel Bruhl, Frank Grillo, Chadwick Boseman, William Hurt, Don Cheadle, and more than likely a few rumored familiar faces playing recognizable characters. Look for the movie to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
