Amy Adams shines in the intriguing first trailer for Big Eyes
I almost let the first trailer for Tim Burton’s newest film Big Eyes pass by without posting it up, but the uniqueness of what’s on display (in its strange non-Burton-esque few moments of intrigue) prompted me to share. The movie feels more Big Fish than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that’s for sure, and the mix of Amy Adams, a toned down Christoph Waltz, and the almost unrecognizable touch of a director many have considered past his prime makes me all the more curious about this one.
Be pleasantly surprised by the first trailer for Big Eyes after the jump.
Whatya think? As tame as the trailer seems for a Burton piece, it’s also his first true story telling, which makes the mixed bag that much more puzzling. The film focuses on Margaret and Walter Keane and their iconic paintings (he as the face, she as the actual painter) from the 1950s and ’60s.
Here’s a plot synopsis for Big Eyes to fill you in on the true story background being adapted:
BIG EYES is based on the true story of Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz), who was one of the most successful painters of the 1950s and early 1960s. The artist earned staggering notoriety by revolutionizing the commercialization and accessibility of popular art with his enigmatic paintings of waifs with big eyes. The truth would eventually be discovered though: Keane’s art was actually not created by him at all, but by his wife, Margaret (Amy Adams). The Keanes, it seemed, had been living a lie that had grown to gigantic proportions. BIG EYES centers on Margaret’s awakening as an artist, the phenomenal success of her paintings, and her tumultuous relationship with her husband, who was catapulted to international fame while taking credit for her work.
Big Eyes stars Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, Jason Schwartzman, Krysten Ritter, Danny Huston, and Terence Stamp. The movie makes its way to theaters on December 25, 2014.
