Doctor Strange trailer teases a more cerebral Marvel movie
Images from the shooting of Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange movie made waves a little while ago, showcasing a running, bloody Benedict Cumberbatch. Now, the first trailer for the movie is making its own waves previewing more of the cerebral Marvel character. Cumberbatch dons his grumbliest American accent while being broken, both physically and mentally it seems, before learning the ways of Doctor Strange thanks to a bald Tilda Swinton. If anything, the Inceptionesque visuals hint at a movie that’s going to bend the rules a little bit, which could be fun. I’m not very familiar with the Doctor Strange character, so I’m neither terribly excited or skeptical about this one. That said, it could be great given the talent involved.

I’m curious, to say the least. Not quite sure I’m sold on the accent yet, but maybe it’ll grow on me. Cumberbatch is pretty solid as an actor, and he has his fans, but Doctor Strange is bound to put him front and center as part of the biggest blockbuster franchise to-date. Regardless of how long or short his Marvel minute is, depending on how much Doctor Strange is set to factor into the Marvel extended universe, Cumberbatch is about to ride that rollercoaster.
Like I said, I don’t know much about Doctor Strange outside him being a wizard/magic user of some sort. He’s part of the Marvel-verse, so I’m sure he’s died a few times and messes with some pretty “out there” forces. It’ll be interesting to see how director Scott Derrickson and writing buddy C. Robert Cargill – the duo behind Sinister – bring spiritual concepts and magical powers to the Marvel big screen.

“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Scott Adkins, and Michael Stuhlberg. You can catch Doctor Strange in theaters on November 4, 2016.
