Franco hangs and Blake Nelson spins his gun in first trailer for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Joel and Ethan Coen’s new western anthology movie, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, began as a Netflix series before the director duo decided to dice up the edit and turn the footage into a proper film. The first trailer for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs just dropped, and the movie has been called an old-school western that’s “disturbing” and “smarmy” by critics attending the first viewing at the Venice Film Festival. That’s a good description of any Coen Brothers’ outing, and this one looks just as star-studded and gorgeous as you’d expect from the seasoned pair.

What do you think? It’s been eight years since True Grit hit theaters and showed audiences that the Coens were not only serious about their western adaptations but could also pull them off expertly. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, from what little I know about it, delivers a few different Wild West stories with all their violent and surreal quirks. Who better to expose those quirks of the era than Joel and Ethan Coen? I really don’t know much at all about this one, but I’m instantly curious and look forward to the movie’s release in November.
We don’t get many big budget anthology movies, and those we do get tend to be geared toward the horror genre, so this is going to be fun. Here’s a barebones plot synopsis for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs that’s more of a press release snippet than anything:
