Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy starring Josh Brolin now has a trailer
The much anticipated, feared, and downright despised remake of a film some consider a classic, Oldboy, finally has a trailer available for appraisal. A poster for the movie surfaced the other day that people were awing over (rumor being that the image used for the poster was a shot from the film), and it previewed the style we could expect.
Helmed by director Spike Lee, and starring the familiar faces of Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olson, Sharlto Copley, and Michael Imperioli, the Americanized version of Oldboy looks to hit a lot of the same notes with a lot of the same hammers.

The original film was directed by acclaimed visionary Park Chan-wook (who recently made his U.S. debut with the vampire movie Stoker), and dealt with some pretty dark subject matter. Fans of the first Oldboy won’t have trouble following who plays who and how things are unfolding, but if Lee’s remake is your first foray into the material you may be pleasantly yet disturbingly surprised.
Here’s a synopsis for essentially both versions of the movie (minus the ad exec part):
OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
And here are a few early images that popped up earlier this week:
