Gravity gets the heart pumping with new single-take trailer
Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) is bringing us to outer space with his new film Gravity, and the minimal-cast thriller now has an amazing new single-take trailer. Starring George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, and Ed Harris, the film follows Clooney and Bullock’s characters as they get lost in space.
Watch the very worthwhile trailer after the jump!
After footage at Comic-Con critics are at least intrigued by Gravity’s use of single takes and atmospheric intensity, and from the trailer we get a good sense of both.
What’s really interesting is the above trailer, titled “Detached”, appears to be the first in a set of three “events” appearing on the Warner Bros. website today and tomorrow. The first event happened this morning, and the second is set for later today. On top of that, there’s also a debris impact counter counting down to something happening within the hour! What could it be?
UPDATE: The countdown is for nothing. Once it reaches zero it starts over at 1:30, and could possibly be just part of the film.
Here’s an official synopsis for the film:
GRAVITY, directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuaron, stars Oscar® winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
