Charlie Brown and friends are back in The Peanuts Movie
There was a time when Charlie Brown and pals would get a new movie or cartoon special once or twice a year, not to mention the classic comic series everything was founded on, but it’s been a while since the gang brought us something new. The property is primed for a younger audience, and fans of the older cartoons are sure to find something worth gushing over when The Peanuts Movie makes its way to the big screen late this year. The first trailer not only showcases the old Charles Schulz charm we know and love, but it also boasts an oddly impressive animation style that feels fresh and subtle at the same time.
Watch the trailer for The Peanuts Movie (which was released a while ago) and take a look at the first character posters for the film after the jump!
I’m really intrigued by the animation style in a silly, “That looks fun” sort of way. There’s a broken motion aspect that reminds me of the tower occupants in Wreck-It Ralph, and the soft but warm colors bring everything to life in an exciting way. It’ll look great on the big screen, and could be sort of surreal in 3D!
Here’s a fairly vague plot synopsis for The Peanuts Movie that at least lets us know we’ll see some familiar faces:
Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace – embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest.
The cast is full of child stars I’ve never heard of, so here’s hoping they all hold their own in a movie that’s both a revival and a new animated movie competing with the likes of Pixar and Dreamworks in 2015.
