Sci-fi mind swap movie Self/less first trailer and posters
With Ryan Reynolds getting most of his buzz lately for his involvement in the Deadpool movie, it’s not surprising that the first trailer and posters for his sci-fi film Self/less snuck through the cracks. He and Ben Kinglsey mix things up a bit in what looks like a Freaky Friday/The 6th Day/Moon mix of mind-bending back and forth that could be fun. Admittedly, there were more than a few familiar puzzle pieces trying to find their place in the trailer, but the cast, director, and atmosphere might make the movie worth the watch when it comes out later this summer.
Check out the first trailer for Self/less, and check out two posters, after the jump.
What did you think? Something almost X-files episode meets ’90s movie madness, right? I’m intrigued, and it’s always cool to see actors step out of blockbuster territory to dabble in something strange or creative in between bigger projects. Ryan Reynolds in particular has a few oddballs on his resume, The Voices and The Nines are two worth tracking down if you haven’t seen them, and the guy has an on-screen presence that’s hard not to enjoy. Add to that the fact that Self/less was directed by the one-of-a-kind visual storyteller Tarsem Singh (The Fall, The Cell, Immortals), my curiosity is bound to get the best of me. Here’s hoping both actor and director do more sci-fi in the future.
If the trailer wasn’t enough to fill you in on the details, here’s a plot synopsis for Self/less:
In this provocative psychological science fiction thriller, an extremely wealthy man dying from cancer undergoes a radical medical procedure that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man. But all is not as it seems when he starts to uncover the mystery of the body’s origin and the organization that will kill to protect its cause.
Self/less stars Ryan Reynolds, Ben Kingsley, Matthew Goode, Natalie Martinez, Victor Garber, and Michelle Dockery. The movie is scheduled for release on July 10, 2015.
