Riddick looks to be a stylized mash-up of the two previous films
Vin Diesel is a man of his word in that he’s bringing yet another Richard B. Riddick film to the big screen. The third live-action movie in the series is appropriately titled Riddick, and for good or bad it appears to be a mix of the two very different films before it. A new trailer for the latest Riddick adventure was released a little while back, but as they say – better later than never!
Watch the trailer, and read a film synopsis, after the jump.
Not bad, right? Director David Twohy seems to have returned to the more stylized world that we enjoyed in Pitch Black while toning down the silliness we cringed at in The Chronicles of Riddick. That said, basic elements of both films are on full display, so here’s hoping Riddick ala 2013 isn’t just a recap.
Here’s an official synopsis for the film:
The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.
Alien predators? Check. Sun-scorched planet? Check. Bounty hunter with a chip on his shoulder? Check. Everything seems so familiar…
Riddick is scheduled for a September 6th release, and Vin Diesel will be joined this time around by returning face Karl Urban as well as Katee Sackoff, Dave Bautista, Jordi Molla, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, and Raoul Trujillo.
It could be fun for sure. I’m hoping it’s at least better than the 2nd one.
