Birdman trailer previews strangely subtle superhero-esque Michael Keaton madness
Not much has been revealed regarding the Michael Keaton-starring film Birdman, but today we get an intriguing glimpse of what’s to come by way of an official teaser trailer. The trailer is sprinkled with familiar faces, and as many questions are raised about the movie as are answered by the brief preview. It looks like a film that focuses on its appealing visuals as much as its dark comedy, which is a combination that tends to payoff on occasion. I’m hooked.
Watch the worthwhile first trailer for Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance after the jump.
Birdman looks reminiscent in style to James Gunn’s oddball superhero movie Super (Gunn is also helming this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy), which was a refreshing entry into the costume-wearing-regular-Joe genre, mixed with some Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, so here’s hoping we get something uniquely similar to really enjoy.
The plot synopsis for Birdman paints it as multi-layered and full of potential:
BIRDMAN or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.
Birdman stars Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, and Zach Galifianakis. It’s scheduled to fly into theaters on October 17, 2011.
