Sharlto Copley stars in first ever POV movie Hardcore
It’s finally happening. The line between video games and movies is being blurred in a big way, and the first footage from the film Hardcore starring Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A-Team) drops us in the middle of the world’s first POV big screen experience. It’s not uncommon for games to use real-world footage to enhance gameplay, so the concept isn’t a new one, but what’s going on here is essentially a live-action video game movie. The objective is spelled out quickly as the footage begins, and we fill the shoes of the player/protagonist as he shoots, grenades, leaps, and rolls through a multi-level building.
You have to see it to truly understand, so watch the first footage for Hardcore, and find out how to donate to the film’s Indiegogo campaign, after the jump.
Holy what the hell, right?! If you’re a gamer, this is probably a wet dream come true. If you’re not a gamer, this might look like a gimmick or even a commercial for the newest Call of Duty game. Either way, Hardcore is aiming to make a big splash.
The movie is already shot and edited, but director Ilya Naishuller and producer Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Wanted) are looking to raise $250,000 through an Indiegogo campaign (click to donate!) to finish up everything in post-production. Donating $50 gets you a cool-looking gun-shaped USB with the film on it, but that’s just the tip of the reward iceberg. Here’s a plot synopsis for Hardcore pulled from the campaign page:
HARDCORE is a modern, action Sci-Fi story about HENRY, a newly resurrected cyborg who must save his wife/creator ESTELLE (Haley Bennet) from the clutches of a psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers, AKAN (Danila Kozlovsky), and his army of mercenaries. Fighting alongside Henry is JIMMY (Sharlto Copley), who is Henry’s only hope to make it through the day.
