First trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives
Talk about a fantastic week for trailers! Adding to everything we’ve seen this week, the first trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has been released. Humanity has crumbled, Caesar has an ape army at his back, and the sequel to the 2011 film Rise of the Planet of the Apes picks up eight years after James Franco ruined everything. Director Matt Reeves is behind the camera this time around (Let Me In, Cloverfield), and in front of the camera is a great cast and the return of Andy Serkis as Caesar, the ape wearing war paint and a grudge.
Watch the worthwhile trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes after the jump.
Gary Oldman’s voiceover spells out everything we need to know about this ape-escaped world turned hostile, and the trailer makes it look like war is coming. Could you imagine fighting an army of apes armed with spears, ridiculous strength, and some nasty teeth intent on munching down on your flesh? Shake those shivers off, and add Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to your must-watch list for next year.
Here’s a plot synopsis for the film:
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
Starring Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, Kevin Rankin, Judy Greer, and Andy Serkis, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes swings into theaters July 11, 2014.
