Eisenberg & Stewart get stoned in American Ultra trailer
The first full-length trailers for American Ultra flew by a few weeks ago, and here they are in all their puff puff pass goodness. If you’re a fan of movies like Pineapple Express where the pot-fueled antics are mixed in with plenty of ridiculous action, this one’s right up your alley. I can just imagine couch-locked friends thinking up a scenario in which a deadbeat stoner is actually a government asset just waiting to be activated, which is pretty much the plot of American Ultra. Throw in unlikely candidates like Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, and even a little Topher Grace, and we’re in for one weird weed movie.
If that sounds intriguing to you, check out the first two full-length trailers (green band and red band) after the jump.

I’ll admit, I’m a fan of this kind of crazy, so I’m looking forward to giving American Ultra a watch. Stewart gets a lot of flack for her Twilight role, but the girl has acting chops outside of that tween universe. Seeing her let loose a little is always fun (On the Road), and she’d kind of make an awesome stoner girlfriend. You know…if you’re into that sort of thing. Pairing her with the usually-quiet Eisenberg as he unleashes hell seems like fun.
If the trailers weren’t enough to fill you in on the plot, here’s a synopsis for American Ultra:
American Ultra’ is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike, a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe, is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive.
Surpsingly, American Ultra was scripted by Max Landis (Chronicle). Not as surprising, the movie was directed by Nima Nouriza (Project X), and the film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Connie Britton, John Leguizamo, Topher Grace, Bill Pullman, Tony Hale, and Walton Goggins. You can spark up and catch it in theaters on August 21, 2015.
Here are the first two posters that were passed around a little while back:
